The thirds hosted Tor on Saturday in what proved to be a hard fought, and entertaining encounter. Both sides played some good rugby, each scoring 3 tries in a game that ultimately came down to the accuracy of the goal kickers. It was Tor who edged the game as they kicked all 3 of their conversions, with Norton only able to add one of theirs.
The visitors took an early lead when they rounded off a strong period of possession to go over close to the posts.They continued to dominate for the opening twenty minutes but gradually Norton fought their way back into the game.
From their own half the ball was moved to the right wing where Norton winger Kemar Stewart set off on a rampaging run.He beat the first defender and then left another fir dead as he raced in form 50 metres. Centre Luke Williams added the conversion.
Tor then hit back with an interception try which was again converted before Norton responded with their second try of the afternoon.Some good interplay allowed the backs to cut loose. Centre Williams shipped the ball wide where full back Ben Penney was on hand to finish off in fine style. The second half was an even affair. Norton rang the changes to ensure everyone played their part.
It was Tor though who scored first after a speculative kick ahead was eventually regathered. This allowed them to go in under the posts for a third converted try. Norton responded as they began to dominate the final quarter. Some good work by the pack allowed scrum half Stu Kelly to scamper over for a well deserved try.
The closing stages saw Norton pressing but the Tor defence kept them out to earn a narrow win. Next week all 3 teams are home, with the 3rds hosting Wincanton, 2.30pm KO
