Norton U15s remain undefeated on home soil.
After winning the toss Norton chose to play the first half downhill with the wind behind them. Both teams were ready for a tough battle after an extremely close game a few weeks ago. It didn’t take Harrison long to put Norton on the scoreboard with a breakaway run to the try line in under five minutes. Kick off allowed the home side to take the ball straight back into Kingswoods 22 and after a couple well played phases Dawid smashed his way over putting Norton 10 ahead in under 10 minutes.
Kingswood were putting up a fight in the scrums and made Norton work hard for yards, their neat formation and quick hands were keeping the home side on their toes. Norton did what norton has always done by hitting hard and defending well when it’s needed. It wasn’t long before Sam D put his stamp onto the game stepping past the defence, dropping his shoulder popping a cheeky try into the far corner. Paul G used the wind to his favour and made a long conversion from next to touch. The game went into half time 22-12 to Norton
Second half and Norton not only had a hungry Kingswood to contend with they were running up hill against the Norton down wind. Sonny T wanted his name on the scoresheet so put his head down from the half way line charging through Kingswoods defence but was dropped on the 5 by a high tackle, still focused on the try line he took a quick tap and go seeing a gap and catching the blues off guard adding his five points to the slate. Kingswood were hungry and were playing a very structured game of rugby, using the full width of the pitch and holding a good attacking line.
Following quite an intense battle the play was back to the halfway line and Norton drew Kingswood in by popping some nice short passes about when Sam D saw his line he took the ball, put his head down again and drove through the defence to the try line with Kingswood players still attached to him.
The game was not letting up and both teams were still extremely focused Matty showed persistence and was at the working end of three consecutive tackles, Arda made sure that anything coming over the top was brought right back into play, Deacon continued to use his time on the ball to gain good yards and JJ’s first game with Norton saw him hand out some big tackles. Everyone knew it was coming but no one was sure when Dawid would decide to pop another try down, the ball was whipped out of a ruck Joe M, passed to Paul G who saw Dawid was ready to break through, he was off, Kingswoods defence tried but failed to slow him and he claimed his second try of the game. After kick off Norton worked their way back into Kingswoods half and after some battling near the try line Kingswood punched through Nortons defence and broke away from everyone. Charlie H saw the danger, dropped a gear and ran from behind everyone on the right side wing to catching and dropping the ball carrier on the left side wing with a sweetly timed ankle tap saving Norton from what everyone on the touch line was going to be an obvious try for Kingswood. Both teams were staying strong and focused, the second anyone let their guard down someone would find a gap and make a run which is exactly what Dylan did when he took the ball, with his trademark lightening speed he stepped and dodged his way from Nortons 10 meter line right the way down the wing to place another ball over the try line for the home team. With a tricky kick into the wind Paul G made it 46 points to Norton.
Norton U15’s are playing a strong game of rugby this season and remain undefeated at home their next game is to Wells away on 6/11/22 KO 11am.
